Iran has called on the IAEA to carry out an inspection of Israeli
nuclear facilities, Interfax reports, citing the Iranian Press TV
channel .
"Without doubt, the nuclear capabilities of Israel are a potential
threat to the entire world and peace in the Middle East," said Ali
Ashgar Soltani, Iran's permanent representative at the IAEA.
In 1969 Israel agreed on a deal with the US according to which Tel
Aviv would not make public its nuclear potential and would not carry
out nuclear tests. Washington agreed in turn not to put pressure on
Israel regarding the issue. Until recently, Israel kept to the
agreement, but Israeli President Shimon Peres has begun speaking more
frequently of the country's nuclear potential.
