United Russia to support Medvedev as prime minister

United Russia will support Dmitry Medvedev as Russian Prime Minister, a member of the party Andrey Vorobyov said on Twitter, RIA Novosti reports.

Vladimir Putin was Russian President until May 2008. He supported Medvedev as president in 2008.

Medvedev proposed support for Putin at an assembly of United Russia in September 2011. He accepted Putin’s proposal to head the list of United Russia at the parliamentary polls of December 4, 2011, and become prime minister.

Putin confirmed plans to appoint Medvedev as Prime Minister on March 2. The two officials are currently negotiating the new Cabinet.
