Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban have signed the bid for hosting the 2020 Olympic Games in Baku, 1news.az reports.
Signatures were put during the Nowruz celebrations yesterday. Over 100,000 people signed the bid in 5 days.
Signatures are collected all over Azerbaijan by the Baku-2020 Organization Committee and the Union of Student and Youth Organizations of Azerbaijan, spokeswoman of the committee Kenul Nurullayeva said. Such intense signature collection proves support of the population to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Azerbaijan.
The national campaign of support for Baku started on March 14. Olympic Champions Farid Mansurov and Zemfira Meftakhetdinova are assisting in the process.
