The State Duma approved a new law on political parties in its second reading today, Interfax reports.
The draft was proposed by President Dmitry Medvedev right after the massive protest campaign started after the December 4 parliamentary elections.
The law makes the procedure of registering political parties easier. According to the new law, a party can be formed by just 500 people, while, according to the current law, the figure is 40 thousand.
