The State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) approved on Friday the draft law on political parties proposed by President Dmitry Medvedev, Ekho Moskvy reports.
According to the new law, a political party may be formed by only 500 people, while the former law demanded 40 thousand members.
The initiative came after the series of protests that followed the December 4th parliamentary elections.
