Kazakhstan, South Korea reach new partnership stage

Kazakh and South Korean Presidents Nursultan Nazarbayev and Lee Myung-bak discussed a wide range of issues regarding bilateral cooperation at the Cheong Wa Dae Palace, Trend reports.

Nazarbayev noted a new stage of strategic partnership. Trade turnover between the two states increased by 16% and reached about $1 billion. Kazakhstan has over 800 joint ventures with South Korea. Cooperation in the sector of raw materials expands.

The Kazakh leader noted efficient realization of joint projects, such as construction of the Balkhash thermal power plant. The gas chemical facility in the Atyrau Region is under construction. The sides discussed development of alternate and renewable sources of energy.

Kazakhstan supports Seoul in developing relations with North Korea. It supports efforts of six-sided talks. Kazakhstan is ready for negotiations on the nuclear security of Seoul.

Korea wants to support Kazakhstan in hosting the EXPO-2017.

Nazarbayev visited the Medical Center of the Seoul National University.
