US-Russia missile defense conflict to be resolved after the polls - expert

On Monday US President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev discussed the NATO missile defense system, that is going to be deployed in Europe. The parties didn't manage to come to an agreement. However, there is still time to find a solution to the problem.

After the meeting world media reported that President Obama told the Russian president in private that the issue may be resolved after the US presidential elections as Obama will be free to act as he wants after the polls.

Commenting on the case, President Medvedev admitted that it will be better to return to the problem after the polls.

According to Vladimir Yevseyev, the head of the Social and Political Research Center, the problem will indeed be discussed after the elections. It's not likely that any agreement will be reached before the polls. The expert admitted, however, that the parties now demonstrate less contentiousness.
