The Department for the Defense Industry of the Turkish Defense Ministry has presented a plan for development of defense projects for 2012-2016, Lenta.ru reports.
Turkey plans to conclude development of its third-generation Altay tank by the end of 2015, conclude development of its destroyer by 2016, the Atak helicopter by 2013 and the Anka drone by 2014.
Turkey will start mass production of its Mehmetcik-1 assault rifle, based on Heckler & Koch HK416 (Germany).
The department presented over 280 projects, worth $27.3 billion in total, approved in 2011. Turkey plans to become one of the top 10 leaders in the military industry. It plans to export military products worth $8 billion in 2016, $2 billion of them will be part of the aerospace sector.
