Battle for overthrowing the government is over, the battle for stability has begun - Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Syrian opposition’s attempts to overthrow the government have failed, and the "battle for stability" has begun in the country, the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Syria says, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Syrian media."The battle to overthrow the government of the country is over, while the battle for strengthening of stability and updating Syria has begun,” spokesman for Syrian Foreign Ministry Jihad Maqdisi says in an interview to Syrian Satellite TV.

In his opinion, the result of this battle should be the development and reforming of the country.

Maqdisi adds that government troops will withdraw from Syrian cities as soon as the extremist groups which undermine stability are eliminated.

"The Syrian army is present in the Syrian cities for protecting civilians, many of whom have been captured (by the insurgents) in order to disrupt stability in the country. As soon as peace and security prevail, the army must go," Makdisi says.

In addition, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman, Syria is committed to "positive cooperation" with the special envoy of the UN and Arab League General, Kofi Annan, who proposed a plan to resolve the crisis in the Arab country.
