The Special Envoy of the UN and Arab League, Kofi Annan, has proposed April 10
as the deadline for the initiation of the implementation of his plan
to resolve the conflict in Syria, RIA Novosti reports, referring to Reuters and
a diplomatic source.
Speaking behind closed doors in front of 15 members of the UN Security
Council, Annan also proposed compelling the warring parties to cease
fire within 48 hours of the deadline.
According to the report, Annan said that Damascus has already agreed
to that date. According to the sources of Agence France Presse, on
April 10 the Syrian regime will have to withdraw its troops from the
cities of Syria.
The plan of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan envisages q
ceasefire by both parties and a special UN mechanism to provide
humanitarian assistance to the victims, as well as the initiation of a
political dialogue.
It was reported that Azerbaijan supports Kofi Annan's plan and is
ready to promote a peaceful solution to the issue, Azerbaijani
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said, Trend reports.
