Bganba becomes Speaker of Abkhaz Parliament

Valery Bganba has become the Speaker of Abkhaz Parliament, RIA Novosti reports.

The parliament of the fifth calling held its first session in Sukhumi today with 33 MPs elected in March.

Raul Hajimba, opposition leader, and Valery Bganba, an MP with 20 years of experience in the parliament, were the two candidates to take the position. Bganba got 21 votes, Hajimba got 11.

The Abkhaz parliament has 35 seats. Two MPs have not been elected due to low vote activity at the Sukhumi District N1. It will have elections on May 6. The Supreme Court announced new elections at district N21, because leaders of the district’s elections Aid Ashuba and Valery Kvarchiya protested against the vote results.
