Russian president congratulates Turkmen president on 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties

 

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has congratulated Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Russia and Turkmenistan and the 10th anniversary of the agreement on friendship and cooperation, press service of the Kremlin reports.

The letter to Berdimuhamedov praises Turkmenistan’s socio-economic achievements. Medvedev emphasized on further development of trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian, regional and international cooperation.

The Russian president expressed confidence that ties between the two states meet their interests and contribute to peace and stability of Middle Asia.

Russia and Turkmenistan are strategic partners in the fuel and energy complex. Russia purchases Turkmen gas, then sold by Gazprom to Europe. Gas demand has recently dropped on the world market. Russia’s ITERA and Zarubezhneft are actively operating in Turkmenistan.
