Ilham Aliyev awarded Order of Commonwealth; Valentina Matvienko becomes honorary doctor of Baku State University


Relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are developing successfully in
a positive and dynamic trend, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said
today in Baku during the meeting with the Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko.

Aliyev noted that the visit of Valentina Matvienko is of particular
importance. The President said that bilateral cooperation has a very
wide range.

Matvienko, following a unanimous decision of the members of the CIS
Interparliamentary Assembly Council, awarded the President of
Azerbaijan with the highest Order of the Assembly - the Order of the
Commonwealth - for "his great personal contribution to strengthening
relations between the peoples and countries of the CIS."

The Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the
Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko, was today awarded the title of
Honorary Doctor of Baku State University. The Honorary Doctorate
was awarded to her by the BSU rector, Abel Maharramov, "for her active
participation in the development of bilateral relations, expansion of
ties in the scientific and educational spheres," 1news.az reports.
