G8 foreign ministers to meet in Washington

Foreign ministers of G8 member states plan to meet in Washington to discuss terrorism, piracy, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, situation in the Middle East and other topics, RIA Novosti reports.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will open the talks. Terrorism will be the main topic of discussions. Russia expects to raise the problem of Afghanistan as part of preparations for the G8 summit in Camp David on May 18-19.

Another issue for talks is the Palestinian-Israeli negotiation process. Spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Lukashevich noted that the foreign ministers may discuss the situation in Syria.
