Members of the A Fair Russia Party have left the parliament hall after President Vladimir Putin’s response to a hunger strike of Oleg Shein in Astrakhan, RIA Novosti reports.
Shein lost the mayor elections in Astrakhan and started a hunger strike, calling vote counts unfair. Mikhail Stolyarov won the elections with 60% of votes. Shein was second with 30%.
A Fair Russia member Yelena Drapeko asked Putin to comment on the hunger strike.
Putin expressed surprise that Shein started a hunger strike before filing a lawsuit to the court to cancel the election results.
