2 Russians detained in Iran

Two Russian citizens have been detained in Tehran, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, ITAR-TASS reports.

“On April 5, a number of employees of the Zar Kuh Kazakh-Iranian joint venture specializing in gold mining were detained in Tehran. Among them there are two Russian citizens,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said. “Russia’s embassy in Tehran, in cooperation with Kazakhstan’s embassy, has taken urgent measures to establish the whereabouts of the Russian citizens, to organize a meeting with them by officers of the consular department, and to find the reason for their arrest.”

“Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan informed the authorities concerned of the incident, including Iran’s Foreign Ministry, which he sent a note requesting to organize a meeting of Russian consular officials with the detained Russian citizens. We are waiting for an answer,” the ministry said.
