UAE protests against Ahmadinejad’s visit to disputed island

The United Arab Emirates has filed a protest note after a visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the disputed Abu Musa Island, Trend reports.

Iranian Ambassador to Abu Dhabi Muhammed Ali Fayyazu was summoned to the Foreign Ministry.

Ahmadinejad visited the island last week. As a result, Abu-Dhabi withdrew its ambassador to Iran. The visit coincided with conclusion of talks on resolving the island dispute.

The Abu Musa, Greater and Lesser Tunb Islands are a disputed territory of Iran and the UAE.
