CCASG demands Iran to return disputed territories to UAE

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG) had an emergency meeting in Doha to discuss the visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the disputed Abu Musa Island and urged Tehran to return the territories to the UAE, RIA Novosti reports.

Abu Musa, the Greater and Lesser Tunb have long been an old territorial dispute between Iran and the United Arab Emirates. The UAE say that Iran has been occupying the islands.

An emergency meeting of heads of foreign ministries of the CCASG was held right after Ahmadinejad’s visit to Abu Musa on April 11.

The UAE call it a provocative visit. The CCASG urges Iran to leave the islands and start peaceful talks to resolve the dispute. The CCASG warned that hostile actions against its members are considered an act of aggression against the organization as a whole.

The UAE summoned their ambassador from Tehran for consultations on Thursday.
