Bin Laden’s main supporter transferred from UK to Jordan

The UK is transferring Abu Qatada to Jordan, British Home Secretary Theresa May said on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reports.

Qatada is accused of organizing terrorist attacks. The European Court of Human Rights did not allow extradition of the cleric to Jordan in April. 51-year old Abu Qatada was released from the British prison and is under home arrest 22 hours a day.

May visited Jordan in March to negotiate the detention conditions of the cleric. Jordan said that it will adjust the Constitution to provide the necessary guarantees.

Qatada was detained on Tuesday and is preparing for deportation. The process should start in about 2 weeks, the British official said.
