Israel's vow to Holocaust victims: no nuclear weapons for Iran

Israel is commemorating victims of the Holocaust for the 60th time on April 19. Israeli leaders promised to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, calling the possibility a threat to existence of the Jewish state, RIA Novosti reports.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged the international society to stop Iran. He noted that those calling the nuclear problem exaggerated have not learned their lesson from the Catastrophe. Israel may now defend itself, unlike 70 years ago.

Israeli President Shim Peres reminded that the country has become powerful and should not be underestimated. Humanity has no other choice than learning the lessons of Holocaust.

The Yad Vashem Center is commemorating the Day of Catastrophe and Heroism. Jerusalem lighted 6 torches, symbolizing six million victims of the Holocaust. They were lighted by six people who survived the tragedy. Only 200,000 people who went through the Catastrophe are still alive.

This morning, Israel will have sirens all over the country on. The Jews will commemorate the victims with 2 minutes of silence. All entertainment centers were closed for the day entertainment programs on radio and TV will be stopped. Schools, universities and military bases will commemorate the victims.
