Georgia cancels TV, radio deals

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili annulled the agreement on operation of the Mir state TV and Radio company on April 18, News Georgia reports.

The document was initially signed in Ashkhabad on December 24, 1993. According to the president’s decree published on April 19, the Georgian Foreign Ministry will inform the depositee.

Mir is a TV and radio company established in 1992, according to a deal with CIS states. The company has offices in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan and Russia. They signed agreements on allowing the company to broadcast on their territories. Its staff has benefits and immunities needed for maintenance of the company.
