Today marks the Day of Turkey's National Sovereignty and Children. This day was introduced by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, TRT reports.
President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated the people of Turkey on the national holiday on April the 23rd.
President Gul said that the Turkish Grand National Assembly is the only authority which represents the achievement of democracy, the will of people and the people's ownership of the national sovereignty.
Prime Minister Erdogan has published a statement claiming that the new constitution will strengthen Turkish democracy.
Turkey will host celebrations at the 19th of May Stadium in Ankara and at the İnönü Stadium in Istanbul. The celebrations will be concluded with a reception in honor of April the 23rd, to be held at the ceremonial hall of the Great National Assembly.
The 34th gala concert of the International Children's Festival will also take place today.
