Nazarbayev explains causes of Middle East revolts

 

Poverty and expectations of changes and foreign influence were the reasons for revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said, RIA Novosti reports.

The president noted that there were foreigners interested in escalating the conflicts. Nazarbayev quoted Victor Hugo, who said that revolutions cause poverty, poverty is the basis of revolution. The states lost 15 years of economic development.

Nazarbayev emphasized that it is unclear who will become the new leaders of Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. He believes that they will stress on Shariah. The Kazakh president said that they had enough revolutions in the USSR and the Russian Empire.

Country leaders should prioritize improvement of living standards, social development, education, medicine and housing. People should take part in development of all social initiatives, the Kazakh president notes.
