Lawyer Dagir Khasavov's statement concerning Shariah courts may be considered extremist, Russian General Prosecutor's office said on Thursday, Ekho Moskvy reports.
In a interview with RenTV, Dagir Khasavov said that the Russian Federation should officially recognized Shariah courts and invest them with judicial power.
The lawyer also said that Muslims will fight and "cover the streets of Moscow with blood" if the authorities don't recognize Islamic religious courts as legitimate judicial institutions.
The scandal is now being widely discussed in the Russian media.
