US president introduces ambassador to Azerbaijan

US President Barack Obama has introduced Richard Morningstar, Special Envoy of the Secretary of State for Eurasian Energy, to the Congress as an ambassador to Azerbaijan, 1news.az reports.

US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul approved the president’s choice on Twitter.

Morningstar started career at Peabody & Brown (Nixon Peabody) in Boston, Massachusetts, where he worked in 1970-1981. Then he became Director General of Costar Corporation, a CEO in 1990. In June 1993, Morningstar was Vice President for politics and investments of the Corporation for Foreign Private Investments. In April 1995, Morningstar became the Special Envoy of the Secretary of State for support of former USSR states.

He became the Special Advisor of the President and Secretary of State for Energy of the Caspian Sea in July 1998. He was the US Ambassador to the EU in 1999-2001. Morningstar became the Special Envoy of the Secretary of State for Eurasian Energy on April 20, 2009.
