The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s rapporteur on the human rights situation in the North Caucasus, Dik Marti of Switzerland, will visit Chechnya, Ingushetia and Dagestan on March, 21-28, a Council of Europe source told ITAR-TASS.

“We already have an agreement with åðó Russian authorities that the delegation will visit åðó Chechen Republic, Ingushetia and Dagestan. At the present time, we are coordinating the concrete details of the visit,” the source said.

“The Council of Europe is watching with interest the development of the human rights situation in the region,” he said.

“The delegation intends to collect all necessary materials for a report on the North Caucasus. The document should be ready for the June session of PACE,” the Council of Europe said.

It is expected that Marti’s report on the North Caucasus will become a part of a larger report on Russia’s fulfillment of its Council of Europe commitments.
