The Lebanese Navy has intercepted a shipment of weapons and ammunition sent to Syrian militants fighting President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, RIA Novosti reports.
Lutfallah II, a vessel sailing along the Lebanese coast under the flag of Sierra Leone, had 3 containers with machine guns, missile launch systems, ammunition, artillery shells and explosives. The weapons were confiscated and the crew detained for questioning by military intelligence.
Local media say that the vessel was on its way from Port Alexandria to Port Tripoli in the northern part of Lebanon, 50 km away from Syria. Damascus has made numerous accusations about shipments of weapons militants from Lebanon.
