Ali Gasanov, head of the section for socio-political affairs of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, said that Azerbaijan approves Richard Morningstar, Special Envoy of the US State Department for Energy, as the US Ambassador, 1news.az reports.
Morningstar knows the region well and has visited Azerbaijan many times. He has attended conferences and meetings for realization of energy projects in South Caucasus. The new ambassador is yet to be approved by the Senate.
Gasanov noted that Baku expects foreign ambassadors to be impartial.
The previous US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Matthew Bryza, concluded his diplomatic mission in Baku on January 3. US President Barack Obama proposed Morningstar for the vacant spot.
