Saudi Arabia has recalled its ambassador to Cairo and closed the embassy and consulate-general in Egypt, Reuters reports referring to the Saudi media.
Saudi Arabia has taken the decision because of protests that took place this week near the Saudi embassy and consulate in Cairo, RIA-Novosti reports.
Hundreds of Egyptians protested in front of the diplomatic mission demanding the release of an Egyptian human rights activist, detained in Saudi Arabia on charges of insulting the king.
According to media reports, during the protests Egyptians tried to storm the embassy and consulate.
