Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Sudanese counterpart Ali Karti will hold talks on Monday during the visit of a Sudanese delegation to Russia, RIA-Novosti reports, citing a statement by the Russian ministry.
The visit of the Sudanese delegation is connected with growing aggression on the border between Sudan and Southern Sudan.
“Taking this into account, the talks between Lavrov and Karti will focus on discussions of measures needed to prevent a further escalation of tensions in relations between Sudan and Southern Sudan,” RIA-Novosti quotes the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Southern Sudan won independence in 2011 in a referendum that came as part of a peace deal to end decades of civil war.
