CSTO to demonstrate better reaction to challenges

The Collective Security treaty Organization (CSTO) plans to improve the system of reaction to challenges, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha said at the Council of Defense Ministers in Astana, RIA Novosti reports.

Defense ministers of CSTO states will meet in Moscow on May 15. CSTO press secretary Vladimir Zaynetdinov said that they have already discussed mechanisms of military-technical aid to CSTO member states when their sovereignty and territorial unity is at risk.

The ministers discussed collective security, formation of collective security forces in the Middle Asian Region, improvement of potential of the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces of the CSTO and their military equipment.

The Council of Foreign Ministers discussed development and modernization of regional air defenses, peacekeeping forces and their training. Kazakhstan plans the first CSTO peacekeeping drills in 2012.

The defense ministers approved the agenda of the anniversary meeting of the Collective Security Council marking the 20th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty and the 10th anniversary of the CSTO. They considered a plan for consultations on foreign policy, security and defenses for the second half of 2012 and first half of 2013.
