The US does not rule out giving guarantees on its missile defense project in Europe to Russia, RIA Novosti cites Ellen Tauscher, US Special Envoy for Strategic Stability and Missile Defense, as saying.
She said that the two states may sign a deal. Russia and NATO agreed to cooperate on European missile defenses at a summit in Lisbon in 2010, but the US refused to give legal guarantees that the systems would not be used against Russia.
Moscow hosted an international conference on missile defenses on May 3-4. Over 200 people from over 50 states attend it. Madeleine Cridon, US Assistant Defense Secretary, and Ellen Tauscher US Special Envoy for Strategic Stability and Missile Defense, are representing the United States.
