Police release new details on Dagestan blasts

The second bomb that went off in Makhachkala on Thursday was equivalent to about 100 kg of TNT and contained projectiles, Dagestani Police Chief Magomed Magomedov told Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev on Friday, RIA Novosti reports.

Nikolai Sintsov, spokesman of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee, said earlier that initial evaluations said that the first bomb was equivalent to 30 kg of TNT and the second to 50 kg.

The two blasts killed 11 people, including 7 police officers, 3 members of the Ministry for Emergencies and a civilian, Magomedov said. Other sources reported 12 or 13 people killed.

The Dagestani police chief added that 63 out of 87 people injured are being treated at hospitals.

The bomb activated at the Moscow Airport of Domodedovo in January 2011 was equivalent to 2-3 kg of TNT. It contained projectiles. The airport blast killed 37 people and injured over 120.
