Russia supports the intention of Kyrgyzstan not to renew the agreement with the US Transit Center at Manas airport, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday, RIA Novosti reports.
The US Air Base was established at Manas international airport in December 2001 and is a major transport and logistics hub for freight and transfer of the antiterrorist coalition in Afghanistan. According to official figures, the transit center employs around 1.5 thousand American military and civilian personnel involved in the operation "Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan. The agreement between the US and Kyrgyzstan expires in the autumn of 2014.
