Parliamentary elections start in Armenia

In Armenia the voting for the National Assembly (Parliament) of the Fifth Convocation launched at 8.00 a.m. and will be over at 8.00 p.m. local time. It will be held in 1,982 precincts (468 of which are in the capital city of Yerevan), News.am reports.

The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia will provide information on elections at 9.00 a.m., while from 12.00 p.m. till 9.00 p.m. it will publish information on the number of voters every three hours.

31,418 observers from 53 local organizations and 647 representatives from 11 international organizations and embassies accredited in Armenia are monitoring the parliamentary elections.

131 MPs will be elected for the Fifth Convocation National Assembly. The parliament is formed by mixed proportional (90 seats) and majoritarian (41 seats) systems.

Eight political parties and one bloc have presented their nominations – Republican Party of Armenian, Prosperous Armenia Party, Orinats Yerkir Party, the Armenian National Congress, the Heritage Party, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, the Communist Party of Armenia, the Democratic Party of Armenia, and the United Armenians Party.
