Former Turkish minister Meral Akşener testifies in court

Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Meral Akşener testified in a specially authorized Ankara court yesterday in connection with the ongoing investigation into the “postmodern coup” of February 28, 1997, Hurriyet Daily News reports.

Akşener was serving as the interior minister at the time of the February 28 process. “The prosecutor asked me [about] information regarding the Western Working Group, and I shared with him what I knew,” she said as she was leaving the court. The “Western Working Group” was a committee of military officials that is said to have monitored the government’s activities and kept illegal records of private information.
