Parliament building in Kutaisi costs $1 billion

$825 million was spent on construction of the new Georgian parliament building in Kutaisi, the Minister of Finance Dmitry Gvindadze stated on Monday, VZGLYaD reported.

The construction will be finished in autumn. It will be open on May 26, although the opposition will boycott the session.

The vice-speaker of the opposition Christian-Democrats, Levan Vepkhvadze, stated that in Kutaisi “it's not a session that's planned, but a PR action of President Mikhail Saakashvili.”

The chairman of the opposition faction “Unity for Justice”, Dmitry Lordkipanidze, also stated that his deputies wouldn’t participate in the session in Kutaisi.

The new parliament building is being built on the site of the destroyed Memorial of Victims of the Great Patriotic War.
