Russia proposes establishing helicopter group for observers in Syria

Moscow considers it necessary to provide helicopters for the UN observers in Syria, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday at a news briefing, RIA-Novosti reports.

Lukashevich did not rule out that, if the situation in Syria deteriorates, the UN Security Council might decide to increase the number of observers in the country. He also stressed that at the moment the question of supplying the UN observers with arms is not on the agenda.

At the same time, the Syrian ambassador to Russia, Riyad Haddad, told a press conference that the Syrian authorities do not have any information about an increase in the number of international observers in the country.
