China and Russia are against missile defenses that threaten the security of other states, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping said on Wednesday, RIA Novosti reports.
Beijing will host a council of leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on June 6-7. The organization consists of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Mongolia, India, Iran and Pakistan are the observers of the organization.
Minister Guoping said that the SCO meeting will be concluded with a declaration on June 7.
Russia and NATO agreed to cooperate in European missile defenses at the Lisbon in 2010, but the US refuses to give legal guarantees that the system would not be used against Russia. Missile defenses have become one of the most topical problems of Russia and the US.
