Iran saves US ship from pirates

Iranian naval forces have saved a US trading vessel from pirates, ITAR-TASS reports.

Maersk Texas was attacked by pirate motorboats at the Gulf of Aden. Local Iranian forces scared the pirates off.

Iranian warships in the area have been patrolling the waters to protect Iranian trading vessels and tankers since autumn 2008. No Iranian vessels have been captured by pirates since then. 44 clashes with pirates happened last year.

Iran released Brazil’s Eglantina caught by pirates in the Indian Ocean in April. Тhe shootout continued for 36 хоурс анд 13 pirates surrendered. The vessel went to Bandar-Abbas.
