US Supreme Court dismisses demand of hostages for $6.6 billion of compensation from Iran

The Supreme Court of the United States has rejected the case on demand of diplomats taken hostage at the US Embassy in Iran in 1979, RBC reports.

The claim was worth $6.6 billion, filed in 2008.Hostages were released according to agreements signed in Algeria on January 20, 1981, the inauguration day of US President Ronald Reagan.

Iranian Islamist students broke into the US Embassy in Tehran on November 4, 1979, and took 63 diplomats and 3 civilians hostage. Most of them spent 444 days as hostages.
