Turkish foreign minister to gather Friends of Syria in Istanbul

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu plans another meeting of the Friends of Syria Group in Istanbul, RIA Novosti reports.

Davutoglu said at the parliamentary session of the Justice and Development Party that Turkey is working on a new conference as a sequel to the meeting in early April. The previous talks resulted in recognition of the Syrian National Council, the opposition structure fighting against President Bashar al-Assad, as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.

Turkey has also joined the US, Spain, UK, Italy, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Japan and other states that expelled Syrian ambassadors on Tuesday and Wednesday. The charge d’affaires of Turkey in Syria and his staff were ordered to leave the state in 72 hours.
