Iran hands over protest note to Saudi Arabia

The ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Tehran was twice summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, where he received a note of protest, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Hassan Gashkavi said, Trend reports on Wednesday.

"The last time Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Tehran was summoned to the Foreign Ministry was on Thursday, where he received a note with regard to the reports that Iranian prisoners will be executed in Saudi Arabia," Gashkavi said.

He said Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi held a number of telephone conversations with his Saudi counterpart Saud Al-Faisal on the subject. Gashkavi also noted that the Saudi side has not responded to the demands of Iran to explain the position of Riyadh on the issue of the Iranian prisoners' execution.

Earlier, a number of media reported that Saudi Arabia would execute the Iranian prisoners.
