Psyrtsinskaya Dam to be reopened in Abkhazia

Psyrtsinskaya Dam will open in Novy Afon producing 100 kW per hour on June 4. It will power up the Novoafonsky Monastery, Director General of the Chernomorenergo State Company Rezo Zantaria said, Apsnypress reports.

The dam was built by monks on the Psyrtskha River near the temple of Simon Kananit in 1902. It was under reconstruction for the last time in 1922. It remained closed for 40 years.

Tourists enjoy the lake created by the dam and the 10-meter waterfall as part of the monastery.
