Presidential envoy calls gas and energy situation in North Caucasus critical

Alexander Khloponin, Russian Vice Premier and Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), proposed operative consultations on debts of gas and electric facilities in the North Caucasus, calling the problem critical. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev approved the initiative, RIA Novosti reports.

The region has 8 billion rubles of debts for gas and 5 billion rubles for electricity for Q1 2012. The population pays 98% of fees.
