Iran writes of $60 million debt of Nicaragua

Iran has written off the debt of Nicaragua worth over $160 million, ARKA reports.

Iranian Vice President Ali Sayidlu told Nicaragua President Daniel Ortega in Managua about the decision. The debt was accumulated during Ortega’s rule in the 1980s.

Nicaragua became one of Iran’s main allies in Latin America with return of Ortega to power in 2007. He told Sayidlu that he supports the Iranian nuclear program and condemns states interfering in its realization.
