Dagestan plans to conclude reconstruction of the Gimrinsky Tunnel in August-September 2012, Dagestani Leader Magomedsalam Magomedov said today, RIA Novosti reports.
The Makhachkala-Botlikh route will open. 3.65 billion rubles were invested in Dagestan’s road works and over 2 billion for reconstruction of the tunnel that reduces the path of highland areas of Makhachkala.
The tunnel is 2,285 meters long. Its construction started in 1979, it was launched in 1991. Reconstruction started in 2008, although traffic was permitted at certain periods.
Reconstruction was to end in 2010, but was postponed to 2011. It was opened in June 2011 for farmers and closed again in August.
270 workers are reconstructing the tunnel in two shifts.
