Progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict requires courage and
decisiveness on the part of political leaders of the involved parties,
the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in
Georgia, Ambassador Philippe Lefort, said on June 1 during a meeting
with the faculty of the Center for European Studies at Yerevan
State University, News.am reports.
The Ambassador stressed that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict severely
limits the opportunities for development and integration in the
region.
The ambassador urged not to rely too much on foreign partners.
He added that the political leaders of the sides will take
an enormous responsibility upon themselves and stressed the role of society in a
dialogue.
Lefort said that the EU considers the South Caucasus an important
corridor. The ambassador, in the first place, noted the importance of
this corridor from the viewpoint of energy transport.
