Kofi Annan, special envoy of the UN and LAS, has expressed hope that Iran would assist in settling the Syrian crisis, Trend reports.
Annan discussed the problem at the UN Security Council within the framework of formation of the contact group for Syria. Syrian activists say that at least 41 people, including 23 peaceful citizens, were killed in Syria on Thursday.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon accused the Syrian government of killing peaceful citizens in Al-Kubeir and called President Bashar al-Assad’s regime illegitimate. He added that international observers trying to arrive in Al-Kubeir were shot at.
The Syrian National Council will meet in Istanbul at the end of this week to elect its leader. Kurdish activist Abdel Basset Sauda is expected to be elected.
