Turkey will end contacts with the European Union until the Republic of the Cyprus ends is chairmanship in the organization, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said at a meeting with EU High Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule, ITAR-TASS reports.
The Turkish minister noted the unresolved problems of the Eastern Mediterranean, such as tensions around oil exploration in the Cyprus Shelf. Davutoglu wants to continue inter-community negotiations on the island.
The talks stressed on Turkey’s integration in Europe. Davutoglu noted that Ankara wants a visa-free regime with the EU. Fule agreed that the talks on visas are taking too long. He hopes that Turkey would soon join the Schengen Zone.
